Captain Stan Miles
ABOUT
MY TRIPS:
-
I am a light tackle fisherman who specializes in using live
bait. By "light tackle" I mean I rarely use spinning
tackle heavier than 20-pound test. If you fish with me,
you'll be setting out in a 23-ft. center console North American
Boat. This boat is excellent for accessing the wide variety
of fish that makes the Keys one of the world's best fishing
destinations. Since it allows me to go not only offshore
but also to get into the shallow waters of the backcountry,
I have many options when it comes to finding fish. For example,
Sailfish are only 5 or
6 miles from the shore. Most boats can't get in shallow
enough water to catch the live bait that Sailfish
prefer. .
-
My Tarpon trips are different
from most other guides in Key West. Others like to fish
the harbor, which of course has lots of fish, but also has
lots of boat traffic. The quiet mangrove channels, on the
other hand, also have lots of fish, but not all the traffic.
Another reason my Tarpon
trips are great is that I use live bait for the Tarpon,
which makes it much easier for the anglers
- While
sailfish fishing, we may
see some Dolphin (mahi-mahi),
which travels the same water as the Sailfish in the Spring.
Actually, we often catch lots of Dolphin when we are Sailfishing.
They are also found offshore under weeds or debris, or if
we see birds in the sky we often find the Dolphin
somewhere below. Watching Dolphin
eat live bait is very exciting. These are just a few examples
of live baiting. We also live
bait Tunas, Wahoo, King
Mackerel, and many more.
-
If you have a specific type of fish in mind, just let me
know, and we will do our best to accommodate you. I provide
all the tackle, but you are welcome to bring your own. The
fish you catch are yours. You can release them, or I will
clean them for you.
- Anybody
is welcome on my fishing trips, since no experience is necessary!
I fish novices to experts of all ages.
- Feel
free to call or write if you have any questions regarding
my trips.
